Educo: Aligning technology and strategy for a global learning experience

Educo is a global cooperation NGO with more than 30 years of experience, dedicated to the defense of children's rights, especially in education and protection. With a team of 900 people and presence in 16 countries, the organization sought to transform its training model to turn its vast expertise into a scalable, high-quality tool for social change.

1 The challenge
Educo sought to overcome the limitations of a very basic previous platform that did not allow traceability, audience customization or progress metrics. The central challenge was to address two different training realities and strategies - the internal one for its team and the external one for partners and clients - without the need to duplicate platforms.
2 Our proposal
We implemented Totara, taking advantage of its flexibility to independently manage the Educo team and external entities from a single environment. The solution focused on a "less is more" strategy , eliminating dense texts for high quality interactive and audiovisual content. In addition, user experience and platform flexibility were prioritized.
3 The results
"Educo Campus" has achieved a 95% completion rate in the mandatory internal courses for its staff of 900 people. The project has made it possible to reduce classroom training costs and optimize the time of experts, making the organization's knowledge scalable and proactive.

The challenge

Centralizing expertise and overcoming technical constraints

Educo operated with a Moodle platform that was perceived as a static repository, with flat materials and an unintuitive user experience. The main "pain" was the lack of traceability: it was not possible to customize itineraries by profile or to measure the real progress of the students.

Transforming face-to-face into global reach

Much of their external training depended on the physical presence of their experts, which limited the impact and increased logistical costs. The challenge was to digitize complex and sensitive content (such as child protection) while maintaining the pedagogical richness of the classroom, and to simultaneously manage the needs of internal staff and external entities, solving two different training strategies under the same technological umbrella.

Our proposal

A robust ecosystem aligned with strategy

We implemented a Totara-based solution under the Educo Campus identity, configured to manage multiple audiences from a single platform. This environment simplifies the administration of the two major training realities of the NGO. It allows customizing the learning experience, simplifying administration and providing real-time data for decision making.

Digitization of high-impact content

Content curation was carried out under the premise "less is more", eliminating unnecessary textual load and enhancing interactivity. The focus was placed on:

Personalized itineraries: Clear segmentation for internal staff (900 employees) and external clients.

Star" contents: Advanced digitalization of programs such as "Protegemos", adapting role-play methodologies to the online environment.

Social and mobile learning: Activation of communities of practice and access through the App for environments with low connectivity.

A leap in participation and operational efficiency

The response to technological change has been immediate, achieving an organic and professionalized adoption of learning:

95% completion: In mandatory in-house training, Educo has achieved success rates of between 90% and 95%.

Cost efficiency: The reduction of face-to-face training has allowed in-house experts to optimize their time, moving from constant travel to generating content of scalable value.

Full traceability: The organization now has detailed control over the progress and legal certifications of its staff in 16 countries.

A scalable system for the future

Educo now has an environment that not only serves to train, but also drives its social mission. The platform allows its country offices (such as Bolivia) to lead the training of local organizations, multiplying the impact of their child protection projects in a proactive way .
